If I haven't told you lately, am going to let you in on a little secret - I am in love with life and food in California. We have the perfect temperate climate; cool ocean winds, dewey nights, bright blue skies full of sunshine, all combine to create the richness, and
abundance of fresh produce year-round,
fresh sea food,
fresh herbs always available (on my deck!) + a wide variety of mushrooms,
incredible varieties of local artisan cheese, wild organic honey, REAL handcrafted olive oil... I could go on and on!
Let's not get started about how lucky we are to be living smack dab in the middle of wine country USA!
In less than 2 hours, we can visit over 7 different distinctive wine areas. Napa, Sonoma, Dry Creek, Lodi, Los Gatos, Livermore, Russian River....
Something so simple as walking down the street on Sunday mornings to hit our local Belmont Farmer's market just makes my heart sing!
Every day I am so thankful that I have everything that I need, and with so much bounty surrounding all of us that live in this wonderful country, there should be no excuses for why even 1 child should go hungry. We all lead very busy lives, and I know that we have so many organizations to support, but while we are rushing around this upcoming holiday season, please don't forget about your local food banks.
Thanks for letting get on my soapbox - hope you enjoyed my photos too!
Caron
Your pics have me hungry right now! And yes, we are so blessed...we had a a very successful food bank drive in our area this Halloween...It was called "Trick or Treat, Food to Eat" The kids asked for canned and non-perishable food items while they were trick or treating and our food bank received an overwhelming response! The kids still got treats of course, but they also got the chance to do something for their community in need. A win win. The foodbanks always need our help at any time of the year. Hunger is a year round issue. I'll get off my soapbox now too! LOL
ReplyDeleteI'm with you all the way Caron - Nature's Bounty!
ReplyDeleteIts funny, I just left Ca. for your old area. I now live in the PNW and I feel the same way about living here. CA. dried me out and got too expensive and crowded for my tastes. Seeing it thru your eyes tho reminds me of why I moved there over 25yrs ago. BTW......Livermore is where I moved from and I worked at Wente's Champagne Cellar Restaurant as one of the chefs. Do go out there if you get the chance. I watched that tiny lil valley with a few wineries grow into such a stunning area.
ReplyDeleteMeanwhile Im loving my Oregon coast beaches and cute critters and trees and even the rain all around me. I feel like I live in Paradise here.
GORGEOUS shots! you are preaching to the choir, even though I will probably always live in a shoe box with my profesora/blogger salary, I just don't want to give up all the goodness there is in Cali. I LOVE IT!
ReplyDeleteHi Caron, talk about the land of plenty! These shots are insane. All that beautiful, fresh, vibrant produce. Wine, cheese, oysters, black grapes... Some of my all time favourites. Pruxxx
