In San Francisco for the past year, so many of the events in the city have all been "maritime" related; it has certainly been an exciting time for San Francisco to host the America's Cup races! Frankly, I know nothing about the sport, but we have sure enjoyed all of the build up to the final races this past week. I think that there are still 3 to go before a winner is announced, but it looks like New Zealand might be in the lead over the U.S. Team...
**UPDATE - Team Oracle won, greatest comeback story in Sports!
Not sure exactly where I found this image, but thought it was incredibly romantic in its' portrayal of John and Jacquie Kennedy enjoying the sailing life - also watching the America's Cup races! Can you see the charts near Jacquie? The harbor packed with sailboats and spectators? Not to mention her iconic, fabulous style! You can almost smell the salt air, feel the excitement of the race and feel the sea breeze.
I am not usually one to be drawn to the images of "Camelot", but this one just grabbed me, and I had to share.
“All of us have in our veins the exact same percentage of salt in our blood that exists in the ocean, and, therefore, we have salt in our blood, in our sweat, in our tears. We are tied to the ocean. And when we go back to the sea - whether it is to sail or to watch it - we are going back from whence we came.”
― John F. Kennedy
Oh, I love that quote. Reminds me of Isak Dinesen and her words: "The cure for anything is saltwater - tears, sweat or the sea."
ReplyDeleteI just love this image and his quote I did not know the races were gong on. How exciting. I have fond memories of the one time I soles on the SF Bay. It was like a dreamy movie.
