The Engagement at Point Arena

Tom and I love to travel up and down our West Coast, and feel pretty darn lucky to be able to jump in the car and head to a number of amazing places within just a few hours of Half Moon Bay. We've been up to the Northern California Coast several times, and Point Arena is one of our favorite places to stay.

There are a series of small cabins for rent that used to be housing for Coast Guard families while they were stationed at the lighthouse.  We managed to stay in our favorite one - The Head Keeper's Cottage.  Not super fancy, but ocean views as far as you can see out of both sides of the cottage and a kitchen large enough to feed an army!

After several hours of driving (and taking a wrong turn down a really really bad windy road!) we finally arrived to sunshine and blue skies.  We were both more than ready to jump of the car, and go for a quick walk before the expected storm started rolling in ...

A fabulous California coastal location to watch crazy ocean storms, and when it's clear the starry skies are incredibly breath taking.  Last time we stayed here, we got up in the middle of the night to simply sit on the patio and stargaze - I can't even describe what that was like. Simply Magical.

BRRRRR... time to get the fireplace going and snuggle up with a special "Tom" cocktail!  Honestly, being at Point Arena always takes my breath away with the stunning wild, natural beauty surrounding us when we are here. It's one of the few times that I can actually relax and wind down with a good book, good music and great conversations with my boyfriend. Tom had other ideas though.

Totally surprised me with an engagement ring.... and I said yes.

Chic Sunset Cruise - Coastal Living Magazine

What a great idea from Coastal Living Magazine in the May 2017 issue! Have a sunset cruise (or picnic...) with added elegance and a touch of coastal chic - we love their mix of items to pack in your picnic basket.  I was also super excited to see that they chose our fun Teal Green Acrylic Nesting Wine Glasses to part of their Sunset Cruise mix!

Here are a few ideas from our Caron's Beach House store that we think will also add to your spring time "chic" seaside outdoor dining look!  Inspired by the coral and teal shades found in the Coastal Living Magazine article-

Fabulous Coral Reef Dinner Plates - who says Melamine has to be boring?

Must haves - pretty nautical serving knives to serve your delish gourmet cheese.

Outdoor Pillows create an inviting space, plus they encourage lingering longer in a cozy atmosphere!

Another must have for any outdoor picnic or bay cruise; plenty of easy care throws for guests to stay warm (especially with unpredictable spring coastal weather!)

Avalon Striped Cotton Throw - can't go wrong at only $43.80!

Have to admit... I am a little partial to these indoor-outdoor Island Vintage Tile throws.  Made of 100% recycled Polyester and knit into a very soft, fine throw blanket - machine wash and dry.

All set - now to just pour the wine!

Teal Nested Wine Glasses - $23.95 for a set of 4

Thanks again to Coastal Living for featuring one of our favorite (practical!) spring and summer dining Al Fresco pieces!

P.S. Their 20th Anniversary Issue is packed with tons of great ideas!

Friday Cocktails - Pineapple Martinis

Tom's special recipe - so yum!  Will be difficult to have just one....

Served in our Palm Tree Martini Glasses as sun began to dip into the Pacific Ocean on the beach in Kihei, Maui, after a day of swimming at the beach with sea turtles and searching for seashells.  (love love love!)  We already have our reservations for next October - having a difficult time staying away!
Ingredients - for one cocktail
  • Fresh Pineapple for Garnish
  • 1 oz. Pineapple Juice
  • 2 oz. Vodka
  • 1/4 Vermouth
Stir all ingredients over ice and pour into chilled martini glasses. Garnish with fresh pineapple slices.

Must have glassware for tropical cocktails!

Pineapple Wine Glasses - why not use for fancy cocktails too!
